Review: Grenade Thermo Detonator

I don't believe in fat burners, what I do believe in is certain products ability mask the effects of fatigue and give stimulation while dieting. In the instance of Grenade Thermo Detonator it says just as much in the marketing. "Grenade Thermo Detonator is a weight-management product that combines perfectly with your high-protein, calorie controlled diet and exercise routine to “declare war on fat”!" This product has been around for sometime, I was sent a review sample recently.

Whats in it?

Container Size: 100 Capsules
Serving Size: 2 Capsules
Servings Per Container: 50
Amount Per Serving: Green Tea: 500mg Bitter Orange Peel: 420mg Caffeine: 225mg Cayenne: 200mg Phenylalanine: 25mg Green Coffee: 10mg
Other Ingredients: Magnesium Stearate, Gelatin Capsule, (Purified Water, Colours: E133, E102 & E129), Titanium Dioxide.

Active ingredients are interesting caffeine has a large body of research back it minimisation of feelings of fatigue and its potential fat oxidative abilities, it contains 225mg which is the same as the largest size coffee you might buy from a coffee shop. It also contains Green Tea which also contains some caffeine and has a long documented history for its anti-oxidant effects. The evidence in green tea and weight loss is mixed to say the least with alot of studies being promoted by companies with vested interests.

Now the constituent ingredient in green tea that is pushed is Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) which has been shown (Lin et al,2005) to help in resisting fat gain.

Another possibly important ingredient is Bitter Orange. Bitter Orange is interest because it contains the tyramine metabolites N-methyltyramine, octopamine and synephrine, substances which are similar to epinephrine, which can act on the α1 adrenergic receptor to constrict blood vessels and increase blood pressure and heart rate. There is little evidence for Bitter Orange peel as a fat burner.

Cayenne pepper is another product vaunted for its thermogenic effects. While this can be debated it has been shown to suppress appetite and settle stomachs. There is some evidence for a nervous stimulant effect too.

Usage and thoughts

As for the effects on myself, I defiantly felt a strong stimulant effect taking it in the morning usually pre workout. The instructions recommend taking 2 in the morning and avoiding taking it after 5pm. I am pretty caffeine sensitive so this had a strong effect on me, I found my effusiveness increase as I do when Im on a caffeine buzz. Those of you who are coffee veterans might find it under whelming. So if you are after a stimulant to help push you through those calorie restricted training sessions I do recommend trying it. However most of the active ingredients can be bought separately and cheaply. If however you do not fancy popping multiple caps in the morning you could give this a spin. On a final note this has possibly the best packaging of any supplement ever!

I would catch one for you...
